As a Principal API Engineer with FIS Digital, you will define the technical vision for the next generation of our Digital API and back-ends supporting North American financial institutions.
In this role you will influence product owners, architects, software engineers across the globe.
This role will work on the hardest problems in the banking API domain, having significant impact on FIS’ business results and guide the API experience for banking and fintech clients.
The Principal Engineer is responsible for driving software innovations to improve performance and cost while delivering reliable, secure, and scalable services.
A strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals and experience in building mission-critical, large-scale distributed systems is a must.
The ideal candidate will also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong technical background enabling seamless work across architects, API designers, and software engineers.
This role reports directly to the Vice President of API Engineering.
Key Responsibilities Engage in the most difficult and critical projects, providing technical vision for architecture and engineering teams and driving high-quality technology solutions.
Fully understand internal companion systems, their abilities and limitations, and their role in the FIS ecosystem.
Engage in enterprise API programs to guide practices in performance, scalability, distributed architecture, and API composition.
Participate in the career development of other team members, providing mentoring on new technologies and complex issues, and helping managers guide career growth for team members.
Participate in key client meetings to help understand client needs and convey FIS vision.
Benchmark FIS API solutions against market competitors.
Oversee software rollouts and configuration changes to ensure smooth implementation.
Base Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
10+ years of software engineering leadership with a focus on domain driven design practices 8+ years of experience working with large scale distributed system development, including hands-on operational experience.
Experienced in full SDLC for large scale RESTful services, including integration and setup of services in an enterprise gateway and development portal (e.
g.
Apigee).
Solid understanding of symmetric and asymmetric cryptography principles, public key infrastructure, and secure hashing algorithms.
Knowledge of JavaScript, node.
js, Java, Spring Boot, C#, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s or PhD in computer science or a related field.
Deep understanding of system performance design and engineering for high security and reliability standards.
Experience decomposing large monolithic systems into microservices in a large-scale, distributed, multi-tier environment.

The pay range for this full-time position is $145,900.
00 - $245,120.
00 and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location.
Within the range, actual individual starting pay is determined additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Any changes in work location will also impact actual individual starting pay.
